Tap into Your Expanded Self
Meditation can be many things, depending on your training and traditional use of the techniques available.
Breema
One way to enter a deep state of unity with Existence, including your higher Self is through Breema Bodywork.
A practice from Central Asia, it was brought to the SF Bay Area where it was blended with Shiatsu forms and taken around the world. Often compared to Thai Yoga Massage, it is its own modality.
The Breema practitioner cultivates a unifying, non-dual meditative state for both themselves and the recipient receiving the bodywork session, which is done either on the floor, on a massage table or seated.
Clients report feeling
- deeply nourished
- extremely relaxed
- expanded in their awareness of themselves, less contracted and tense
Because it is a bodywork/ massage modality, there are the added benefits of:
- Reducing low-back pain
- Toning weak, tight, or atrophied muscles
- Helping athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts
- Increasing joint flexibility and improving range of motion
- Promoting tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue
- Pumping oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs
- Reducing post-surgery adhesions and swelling
- Reducing spasms and cramping
- Lessening migraine pain
- Releasing endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller
- Lowering levels of depression and anxiety
- Enhancing immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system

Active Meditation
Another way to use meditation practice is as a type of hygiene: a shakedown or slough-off of extraneous thoughts, emotion-states and “vibes” that distract you from the activity at hand, whatever that may be.
I practice this kind of meditation on a daily basis and call it, simply, Active Meditation.
I’m not the first to use the term, but an earnest advocate and practitioner.
This method of meditation calms and centers you within your own Being.
There are some basic formats and “how-to” steps in this method that, once learned, will help you get clear of distractions and lay the ground for being able to put power behind manifesting your goals.
I can guide and coach you towards an optimum active meditation practice that suits your needs. Email or call me to set up a free 15-minute phone consult to determine compatibility: email me at Victoria (at) Ayurveda-Healthcare (dot) com
The Human Energy Field
What was once purely science fiction or subjective religious belief has now been scientifically documented and artistically rendered – a field of energy extending beyond the visually-observable human form approximately 18 inches to 3 feet, depending on what aspects of it are being measured. Meet your Human Energy Field *1,2,3.
When we clear our Energy Field areas where it may have congealed or become blocked flow more freely again. We feel lighter and think more clearly, with less agitation. We feel more serene, sometimes. Other times we feel our sadness and grief more acutely, if they are present and we had numbed ourselves to them.
To keep our fields fresh and flowing we intuitively use the wellbeing practices of regular exercise and a wholesome diet.
As well, many people like to meditate, chant, engage in breathwork and other mind-management techniques to keep agitated thoughts or stagnant emotions from clogging up our space.
And we can ask energy medicine healers to help us clear stale or unmoving energies, as well. Energy healers are simply people who can hold a steady vibration of health for themselves strongly enough to extend it to others in an ‘entrainment’ of vibrations. It can be a great boon to recovering mental, emotional and physical health.
Regardless of religious or atheistic contexts, Energy Medicine Healing has found modern acceptance among many in the scientific community from nurses’ effective use of Reiki and Non-Contact Therapeutic Touch in 21st century hospitals to relieve pain and hasten healing outcomes.
Active meditation is a great way to keep your energies fresh and up-to-date, but sometimes a good ‘scrubbing’ from an energy healer is helpful when you’re feeling stuck in your practices. I have several such healers to refer you to in such cases, email me at Victoria (at) Ayurveda-Healthcare (dot) com for a referral.

1The Human Energy Field in Relation to Science, Consciousness, and Health, by Gloria Alvino.

2 From IHM website:
“Taken together, the results of these studies demonstrate that intentionally altering one’s emotional state through heart focus modifies afferent neurological input from the heart to the brain. The data suggest that as people experience sincere positive feeling states, in which the heart’s rhythms become more coherent, the changed information flow from the heart to the brain may act to modify cortical function and influence performance. These findings may also help explain the significant shifts in perception, increased mental clarity and heightened intuitive awareness many individuals have reported when practicing the HeartMath techniques.
The final two studies in this section are concerned with energetic communication by the heart, which we also refer to as cardioelectromagnetic communication. The heart is the most powerful generator of electromagnetic energy in the human body, producing the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field of any of the body’s organs. The heart’s electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the electrical activity generated by the brain. This field, measured in the form of an electrocardiogram (ECG), can be detected anywhere on the surface of the body. Furthermore, the magnetic field produced by the heart is more than 5,000 times greater in strength than the field generated by the brain, and can be detected a number of feet away from the body, in all directions, using SQUID-based magnetometers (Figure 12). Prompted by our findings that the cardiac field is modulated by different emotional states (described in the previous section), we performed several studies to investigate the possibility that the electromagnetic field generated by the heart may transmit information that can be received by others.
The Heart’s Electromagnetic Field

Figure 12.
The heart’s electromagnetic field–by far the most powerful rhythmic field produced by the human body–not only envelops every cell of the body but also extends out in all directions into the space around us. The cardiac field can be measured several feet away from the body by sensitive devices. Research conducted at IHM suggests that the heart’s field is an important carrier of information.” |
3 From DB’s website:
“Human healers
Varieties of approaches for human assessments and manipulations of bioenergies have been developed and popularized for helping people heal physical and psychological problems. Some of the major methodologies include Therapeutic Touch (TT), Healing Touch International (HTI), Reiki and Johrei. Assessments are most commonly made by healers through sensations experienced when they pass their hands through the bioenergy fields of the healees. Some healers have visual perceptions of bioenergy fields and can assess healee’s states by the color and shape of healees’ fields.
There are now hundreds of published research studies for these modalities, particularly TT and HTI, which are largely practiced by nurses (DB, 2001a; 2001b). Significant effects of healing have been demonstrated for anxiety, pain and other problems.”
